Help Communities Protect their Agricultural Assets in the Face of Challenging Climate Conditions and Improve their Resilience Project

The project, funded by #Avaaz and implemented by NMO, contributed to the restoration of local agricultural assets in need of repair, such as irrigation channels and dams, using traditional methods. A total of 100 beneficiaries were selected to work on the project through the "Cash for Work" approach, with the assistance and supervision of community committees that helped complete the work. The project’s impact reached over 4,500 individuals across more than 700 households.

The "Supporting Local Communities in Protecting Agricultural Assets" project aims to assist local communities in safeguarding their agricultural assets by constructing irrigation channels, diversions, and water barriers using traditional methods under the "Cash for Work" framework. This initiative was developed in response to the climatic changes affecting the Beihan district in Shabwah Governorate, where increased rainfall intensity and annual flood levels have caused significant damage to agricultural assets in the area.

Through funding from Avaaz and implementation by NMO, the project established and rehabilitated irrigation channels, diversions, and water barriers to mitigate climate-related risks and support the local community via the "Cash for Work" program. Additionally, the project enhanced the living standards of the beneficiaries by equipping them with the necessary skills and experience, thus contributing to the agricultural advancement and sustainable development of the region.
