As part of the Yemen Joint Response project, funded by the #DRA and in partnership with #Cordaid, Nahda Makers Organization #NMO implemented the activity “Rehabilitation of Community Assets by FFA modality in Lahj Governorate.
The activity targeted Tuban District – Lahj Governorate, where work is currently ongoing to pave water channels for agricultural lands and facilitating the irrigation process for farmers by allowing them to control the amount of water while irrigating their lands and protecting the erosion of residential building foundations & establishing a water supply network for homes & establishing a sewage network.
Specifically, the activity covers the paving agricultural water channels running adjacent to homes to protect the erosion of residential building foundations, with a total area of 650 square meters, in addition to a sub-activity to establish a home water supply network, another sub-activity to establish an integrated sewage network, and the Construction of a pre-cast concrete culvert to allow water channels to pass into agricultural lands through designated passages.
This work is carried out by the project’s direct beneficiaries from the local community—particularly those affected by the irrigation canal and farmers whose lands were threatened by it, as well as the most vulnerable groups from the community, totaling 60 beneficiaries. It also includes farmers benefiting from the rehabilitated irrigation canal, which is designed to protect agricultural lands. The activity focuses on engaging unskilled laborers from the local community, along with resident households (owners of houses and farms).
Previously, the project also provided cash support to these farmer beneficiaries through the “Cash for Food” activity, enabling them to meet their food needs and strengthen their food security.
Ultimately, this intervention aims to enhance the resilience of the local community by rehabilitating irrigation canals, protecting homes and farmlands, and providing temporary job opportunities, which contribute to improving both the food security and economic stability of the targeted households.
