As part of ongoing efforts to protect agricultural lands and improve water infrastructure in Wadi Hadramout, a construction activity is currently being implemented. This includes the rehabilitation of main and subsidiary canals, as well as the protection of agricultural soil from erosion, covering several key districts in the region.
📍 Target Areas
-
Section One: Canal rehabilitation in Sayun, Shibam, Wadi Al-Ain, Doan, and Rakhiya.
-
Section Two: Agricultural land protection from erosion in Doan, Rakhiya, and Al-Qatn.
The total volume of gabion and stone masonry work carried out under this activity amounts to approximately 6,140 cubic meters, distributed between the canals and flood protection structures, contributing to improved floodwater utilization and redirection towards agricultural lands 🧱.
🎯 The objectives of this activity are as follows:
-
Maximize the use of floodwater.
-
Redirect water flows to agricultural lands.
-
Protect agricultural soil from erosion and degradation.
This intervention benefits all residents of the targeted areas, including farmers, landowners, and homeowners. Additionally, downstream villages benefit from reduced flood risks and their destructive impacts 👥.
📊 Number of Beneficiaries:
-
Direct beneficiaries: 674 workers from local communities in the targeted districts, providing temporary job opportunities and supporting the local economy.
-
Indirect beneficiaries: Approximately 22,500 residents from the surrounding communities.
This project is being implemented with the generous support of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center #KSRelief, in partnership with the World Food Programme #WFP, and implementing by Nahda Makers Organization #NMO_ORG, as part of efforts to strengthen community resilience and promote food security in Wadi Hadramout.
