#Nahda_Makers Launches the “Food to Resilience – FuTuRe3” Project in Al-Qatn and Seiyun Districts, Hadramout

As part of the Food Security and Livelihoods sector, the opening workshop for Local Authorities and Community Committee Representatives was held to launch the “Food to Resilience – FuTuRe3” project, which will be implemented in Hadramout Governorate, specifically in the districts of Al-Qatn and Seiyun. The project is funded by the (#KSRelief) and (#BMZ), in partnership with the World Food Programme (#WFP), and implemented by Nahda Makers Organization (#NMO).

The workshop included a comprehensive presentation of the project’s objectives, intervention scope, and implementation plan, as well as an explanation of the beneficiary selection methodology and coordination mechanisms with local authorities and the Ministry of Agriculture. The current condition of irrigation infrastructure in the two districts was also reviewed, alongside outlining the roles and responsibilities of NMO, local authorities, and donors. In addition, participants discussed the implementation timeline, safety and MEAL requirements, and the expected pathways to enhance agricultural production and strengthen climate adaptation.

The project targets 300 vulnerable farming households, including farmers affected by deteriorating irrigation canals, households in IPC Phase 3 and those most in need, as well as women-headed households, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and low-income agricultural workers.

The project will implement several key activities, most notably the rehabilitation of primary and secondary irrigation canals in Al-Qatn, the rehabilitation of main and sub-irrigation systems in Seiyun, the construction of flood-protection gabion barriers, the rehabilitation of water distribution structures and their connection to agricultural fields, in addition to training and awareness activities on climate-smart agriculture and water management techniques, and the engagement of 300 households in cash-for-assets activities.

The workshop was attended by the Deputy Governor of Hadramout for the Affairs of the Valley and Desert Districts, the Director of Local Authorities in Seiyun, representatives of community committees, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, and project representatives from the Organization.
