Joint Field Visit to Follow Up on the FuTuRe Project in Hadramout

 

As part of efforts to strengthen partnership and coordination in development projects, a joint field visit was conducted by the World Food Programme (WFP) and the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) to Say’un and Shibam districts in Hadramout Governorate. The visit aimed to follow up on the implementation progress of the “From Food to Resilience” project, which is being implemented by Nahda Makers Organization (NMO) with funding from KSrelief and in partnership with WFP.

The visit focused on reviewing the completed activities under the project and exploring potential future interventions in line with WFP’s new strategy, which emphasizes integrated and comprehensive activities to enhance community resilience in target areas.

The WFP delegation included:

  • Mr. Omar Al-Rifai, Head of Climate and Resilience Unit, Regional Office – Cairo
  • Ms. Hala Suleiman, Head of Programmes, Aden Office
  • Ms. Shiho Akamatsu, Resilience Programme Manager, Country Office
  • Mr. Daniel Mendes, Head of Mukalla Field Office
  • Mr. Hamza Ghaleb, Resilience and Livelihoods Projects Officer, Mukalla Field Office

From the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre:

  • Mr. Abdulaziz Malik Bawazir, Coordination Unit Supervisor, KSrelief Hadramout

From Nahda Makers Organization:

  • Mr. Fouad Abdullah, Project Manager
  • Mr. Omar Basaleh, Project Coordinator

The field visit included several key project sites in Say’un and Shibam, where the delegation reviewed the progress of:

  • Construction of gabion barriers in Wadi Na’am, Shibam
  • Rehabilitation of stone walls in Al-Khawar, Say’un
  • Greenhouse farming initiatives in both districts
  • Rainwater irrigation system in Shibam

The project team presented a detailed overview of the major achievements, including:

  • Development of water infrastructure to maximize the use of floodwater for agricultural irrigation and protect farmland from erosion
  • Introduction of a rainwater irrigation system, the first of its kind in the governorate, aimed at conserving water and improving crop yields
  • Distribution of 15 greenhouses across the targeted districts, including 6 in Shibam and Say’un, to enhance agricultural productivity and protect crops

The visiting delegation commended the quality of the implementation and the progress made, noting that these achievements serve as a strong incentive to continue support and expand future interventions.
The parties agreed to maintain coordination and explore new opportunities to amplify the project's impact in support of local communities.
