Agricultural Land Reclamation :
As part of a strategic step toward enhancing food security and self-reliance, Nahda Makers Organization (NMO), with generous support from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSRelief) and in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), continues to implement agricultural land reclamation activities in six districts of Hadramout Governorate: Sayun, Shibam, Al-Qatn, Wadi Al-Ain, Daw’an, and Rakhyah in Hadramout
.
The project involves reclaiming 65 farms spread across 18 agricultural plots, covering a total area of 328 feddans, most of which are barren lands. Some areas, especially in Rakhyah District, are cultivated seasonally when rainfall and floods occur.
🎯 Project Objectives:
-
Reclaim and cultivate barren lands to enable communities to reduce dependence on food assistance.
-
Increase agricultural production and improve farmers’ incomes.
-
Create job opportunities in the agricultural sector.
-
Enhance resilience to climate change using modern technologies.
🌱 Additional Activities Benefiting Farmers:
-
Introducing suspended rain irrigation systems for the first time in the targeted areas (1 feddan per district).
-
Implementing agricultural tunnels with drip irrigation to conserve water and protect crops.
-
Producing organic fertilizers from plant waste.
-
Establishing 15 agricultural greenhouses, indirectly benefiting local farmers.
-
Constructing floodwater structures to divert rainwater to farms and protect agricultural sites from erosion.
-
Distributing agricultural inputs such as seeds, seedlings, and fertilizers.
-
Transporting soil to farms affected by gravel layers that hinder cultivation.
-
Installing irrigation pipelines and building cement water reservoirs.
-
Providing land reclamation tools and deploying skilled labor to deliver technical and advisory support.
This project stands as a model for transforming environmental and economic challenges into development opportunities, reinforcing the use of local resources and breathing new life into neglected lands.
