Unbreakable Determination

Maqbanah District in #Taiz Governorate continues to suffer from the ongoing as conflicting parties share control over the region. This has led to a humanitarian crisis and a severe shortage of essential goods and services. The closure of main roads has made the delivery of necessities costly and difficult, forcing residents to use rough alternative routes, which has increased the difficulty of accessing their farms, food sources, and markets.

Shawqi Hassan Saeed Abdu, a 27 years old  resident of Al-Jabana village, worked for daily wages and relied on his motorcycle as a source of income for his family. Shawqi is married and a father of four children, being the sole breadwinner for them. Before the intervention of #Nahda_Makers Organization, Shawqi had social roles where he leveled and compacted the Aqaba Road using the tools available to him and without any compensation.

We met Shawqi, who told us "The Aqaba Road was very rough and posed a significant challenge for transportation, especially in medical emergencies, causing major issues for the residents and for me personally. Shawqi also mentioned that there have been car rollovers due to the difficulty of the road."

Shawqi is one of the beneficiaries of the cash-for-work activity within the "Integrated Protection, livelihood and WASH Intervention" project implemented by #Nahda_Makers Organization #NMO funded by Yemen Humanitarian Fund #YHF in Maqbana district, Taiz governorate, expressed that this initiative enabled him to provide for his family's needs and necessities.

Shawqi expressed his gratitude for the efforts made by #Nahda_Makers Organization, saying "The repairs to the Aqaba Road have been a positive improvement for all members of the community." He added "When Nahda Makers intervened, I was selected as one of the workers to pave the road, and I have now become a skilled laborer with extensive experience in paving and leveling any road."
