As part of ongoing efforts to promote sustainable water resources management and strengthen the resilience of agricultural communities, activities of the project “The Integrated Water Resources Management to Enhance Resilience of Agriculture and Food Security” continue in Al-Salou and Al-Mawasit districts of Taiz Governorate. The project is funded by #KfW, implemented by #UNDP, and carried out in cooperation with #Nahda_Makers.
Within the framework of capacity building and the promotion of good water governance, the project recently implemented a series of specialized training courses, including a Hydrology for Water Well course and a Geophysics course, targeting staff from the General Authority for Water Resources and the Agriculture Office in Taiz Governorate.
A total of 16 trainees participated in the Geophysics course, while 20 trainees took part in the Hydrology course. These trainings aimed to strengthen the institutional and technical capacities of professionals working in the water and agriculture sectors, and to improve their efficiency in managing and monitoring water resources.
The trainings also sought to contribute to the activation of good governance of water resources by enhancing the institutional and technical capacities of the General Authority for Water Resources and the Agriculture and Irrigation Offices, improving water resource monitoring mechanisms, ensuring community ownership and accountability in the operation and maintenance of water facilities, and expanding community participation—particularly by strengthening the active role of women in water resources management.
These activities are implemented in support of the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) approach, contributing to the sustainable use of water, enhancing food security, and increasing the capacity of agricultural communities to adapt to environmental and climate-related challenges in the targeted areas of Taiz Governorate.
