NMO is looking for an efficient and qualified person to fill the post of Engineer Field Assistant to carry out the following tasks:
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Coordinate and conduct a technical evaluation of construction works in intervention areas and other facilities
- Analyze and conduct survey data with developing reports for program design and decision making
- Develop technical designs, detailed BOQs with cost estimates, drawings, and structural calculations for required construction work in line with existing local, national, and education cluster standards
- With the support of the Education Officer, develop a detailed implementation plan for the scope of work required from the initial stage to the completion of the work and for the post-handover stage
- Ensure quality control of works and compliance with quality standards, specifications, and safe construction practices
- Verify the materials received are with high quality and within the required standards
- Ensure construction completion with safety measures during implementation, considering the preventive measures against Coronavirus during construction works
- Coordinate with the local authorities and the Ministry of Education for works at critical stages, especially at the beginning and closing
- Participate in preparing procurement plans for construction works and materials, from tender preparation, and ensure that appropriate technical considerations are in place
- Review existing implementation plans for accuracy and quality - (and where possible), and suggest technical changes to avoid any deviation within the time frame
- Monitor, document, and report work completion, cost, and quality by using checklists or other supervision and management tools developed for construction activities to ensure timely, cost-effective, and quality delivery of works
- Submit weekly activity reports and field visit reports at critical stages of construction works
- Submit reports on the percentage of completion of the project and the percentage of budgets and reporting in case of gaps are discovered
- Support emergency planning and response
- Prepare the final receipt certificate and submit reports to the Education Officer so that the contractors' dues are paid
- Carry out any project related tasks (office or field) as assigned by the Education Officer
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
- At least one year of experience in a non-governmental organization
- Excellent external communication and representation skills
- Excellent ability to plan, prioritize, and multi-task
- Excellent teamwork skills
- Flexibility and ability to deal with stressful situations
- Good computer literacy, including the use of smartphones and AUTOCAD (WORD and EXCEL)
- Knowledge of multi-sector humanitarian response, including education, water and sanitation, and emergency distribution is required
- Experience in the field of education projects is preferred
