WASH Engineer (Officer)

Location: Aden with several travelling to project target areas in Abyan.

Responsible from: WASH project Manager  

Responsible to: WASH Engineer assistants    

                       About Nahda Makers Organization:

NMO is a humanitarian organization implementing several program in WASH, Food security, Livelihood, Shelter, Education and child protection program in Yemen since 2012. With funding from different donors.

#Main Responsibilities:

Based on the technical assessment, prepare design, drawing & BoQs for all WASH hardware items (water systems rehabilitation / newly construction).Prepare all procurements, contracting and construction management documentation.Enhance the efficiency of a program through evidence-based approach and implementation follow-up.Document results and lessons learned from WASH program implementation to promote knowledge sharing with WASH stakeholders.Provide on-site technical assistance to contractors or service providers and beneficiaries during the process of implementation, including management of construction activities.Prepare and submit regular progress reports and work plans to the WASH Manager Coordinate rehabilitation works with communities and ensure that projects are carried out with participation from all relevant stakeholders, including conflict affected people.Supervise the construction/rehabilitation process, ensuring that it is completed as per specification and safety standard, according to approved BoQs, in time and within budgetWork with WASH Manager to draw up works such as tender documents and provide technical support to Logistic team. Verify incoming materials are of the highest quality and Where necessary, take samples for laboratory testing of materials and workmanship. Certify achievement of contractual milestones and provide report to WASH Manager so payment to contractors can be processed. Seek and obtain appropriate government and related local authorities sign-off on works at the critical stages; especially at the start and completion. Supervise and provide technical training of community volunteers, members of WASH committees, staff on how to use and maintain the water sanitation facilities. Write and submit periodic activity reports and filed visit reports of the construction/rehabilitation works. As required, support emergency planning processes and response in regards to WASH. Ensure that the minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Sphere Charter and humanitarian principles.Carry out other related tasks as directed by the line management.

#Knowledge and Experience:

Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering.  Two years’ relevant experience in same field. Ability to supervise and mentor staff to achieve results Experience at preparing various engineering reports. Experience in preparing Bill of Quantities (BoQs) and its costs. Thinking both creatively and logically to resolve design and development problems. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English & Arabic.  Ability to communicate effectively with the community and colleagues.Trustworthy and able to manage resources effectively.Excellent computer skills.Commitment to the aims and Humanitarian principles with respect and dignity, while working towards serving beneficiaries and vulnerable populationsAbility to think independently and problem solve.Strong planning organizational skills, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Be a team player and ready to collaborate with others in a positive manner.
