Job Title:  Education Officer

About Nahda Makers Organization:

NMO is a registered national NGO with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor No. 284. Our mission is to take the lead to empower communities in Yemen through humanitarian response and sustainable development programs in a professional way through effective partnerships. NMO started its activity in Yemen since 2012 and has been implementing projects in 5 sectors namely FSL, Education, WASH, Shelter, and Governance and skill-building.

 

NMO is looking for an efficient and qualified person to fill the post of Education Officer to carry out the following tasks:


Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the policies, regulations, and procedures of the Nahda Makers Organization.
  •  Contribute to the development of all technical work details for project implementation including detailed implantation plan, procurement plan, cluster reports, project design, BoQ, and cost, and share the first draft with the line manager.
  • Participate in managing budgets related to field activities.
  • Ensure involvement and participation of the Directorate of Education, teachers, school management, and students in activities undertaken in the projects including assessment and maintain good relationships with all parties.
  • Supervise and delegate responsibilities to the Project Field Assistant and other field staff. Provide technical support and feedback to them in line with program objectives.
  • Prepare monthly report activities progress report and share the first draft with line manager and contribute to preparing the final report.
  • Coordinating the process of selecting field work teams and supervising their implementation by the Project Assistant.
  • In coordination with the HR department to prepare contracts for field supervisors, volunteer teachers, and facilitators after preparing their data lists.
  • Preparing purchase requests and following up on their submission and procedures with the Procurement Department.
  • Follow up the project assistant through weekly and monthly reports.
  • Monitoring and updating overall project work plan, weekly movement plan, staff work plan, and follow up the financial dues of individuals.
  • Implement education assessment including student participation and school management and contribute to preparing the projects proposal. 
  • Attending education cluster meetings and continuously raising updates to the Education Program manager.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure all information tracking according to project needs and donor requirements.
  • Preparing the media content and following up the design and printing process.
  • Participate in the process of selecting trainers, preparing training materials, and following up on contracting with them.
  • Working on selecting and forming PTA in the targeted schools and documenting the process of their selection in accordance with the applicable verification approaches.
  • Ensure that appropriate outreach activity and fair beneficiary registration and selection processes are conducted for the implementation of the education program components assigned.
  • Coordination with the data entry team to prepare the distribution lists for student and teacher kits and prepare the attendance sheet for participants in training courses.
  • Coordinating with the trainers and providing the necessary requirements before and during training.
  • Supervising the progress of the distributions or training process and overcoming any obstacles that may be faced.
  • Provide support to formal schools and incentive staff in line with Education cluster quality standards.
  • Archiving all documents and files related to the department according to the system followed in the organization.
  • Effectively represent the organization in relevant meetings, events, and trainings.
  • Preparing the documentation file for the activities after taking photos from the media department in the organization.
  • Ensure implementation of NMO Education activities according to INEE Minimum Standards.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops and sensitization sessions on education-related topics with parents, school committees, and education staff.
  • Support project assistant to disseminate information to and engage communities (leaders, parents, etc.) about education issues and available services. 
  • Support project assistant to ensure the classrooms is a safe and protective environment for children, in coordination with the education office at the district level.
  •  Hold meetings with stakeholders including local councils and other organizations serving children and the community to understand their education priorities, familiarize them with the projects and their objectives and engage them in the process.
  •  Keep proper records of field expenditures and appropriate reports to the Education program manager.
  • Any other task relevant to the position as requested by the line manager.

Requirements

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
  • Minimum bachelor's degree, preferably in education, social work, business, engineering, or any related field.
  • Previous relevant experience (2 years) with Children/Youth Education/Youth program (planning, implementing/overseeing the implementation and reporting for education activities/projects) – formal education program (academic, life-skills, and recreational activities for Children).
  • Experience in dealing with public stakeholders within the Education system (e.g., school principals, Ministry/Directorate of Education representatives, and communities).
  • Experience in organizing and/or conducting trainings, awareness sessions, workshops, etc.
  • Experience in contributing to the designing/ revision/ contextualization of learning/ recreational/ PSS materials / program for children or youth.
  • Competence in using computer packages including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience working in a humanitarian/recovery context, preferably as a project officer.
  • Previous experience working in a complex and volatile context.
  • Familiar with Yemen's context and geography. Ready to travel on missions into different Governorates.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Good documentation and report-writing skills.
  • Good cultural awareness and sensitivity.
  • Ability to spend extended periods of time in field conditions.
  • Solid planning skills and dealing with implementation challenges and finding solutions.
  • Problem solver and hard working with ability to work under pressure.
