Location: Abyan Gov. – Lawdar, Mudiyah, Sibah, and Khanfar districts with frequent visit to the headquarter of the NMO in Aden

Contract Duration: 3 months

NMO is a registered national NGO with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor No. 284. Our mission is to take the lead to empower communities in Yemen through humanitarian response and sustainable development programs in a professional way through effective partnerships. NMO started its activity in Yemen since 2012 and has been implementing projects in 5 sectors namely WASH, FSL, Shelter, Education, and Governance and skill-building.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of the Renaissance Makers Organization
  • Following up project activities in coordination with the WASH Engineer Officer
  • Supervising and providing technical and logistical support to WASH supervisors in terms of supervision and implementation of works and solving challenges and problems that appear in work sites.
  • Coordination with local authorities and executive unit officials in the locations of the targeted camps
  • Field visits to the work sites to know the nature of the work sites, conduct surveys, determine the actual need, and know the challenges and what are the appropriate ways to solve them
  • Preparing bills of quantities, drawings, and engineering designs necessary for work (rehabilitation / new construction).
  • Participating in preparing the purchase requests, work plan, procurement plan, media plan, and vehicle movement plan
  • Supervising and following up the progress work of contractors at work sites with the help of WASH officer and supervisors to ensure the quality of work in accordance with safety standards, specifications and drawings, and the implementation of the project according to the time specified for it and within the specified budget for the project
  • Periodic and continuous field visits to work sites to inspect the progress of work and ensure its quality
  • Providing on-site technical assistance to contractors or service providers and beneficiaries during the implementation process
  • Checking the quality of the materials supplied by the suppliers and verifying that the samples received are of high quality and according to the specifications and when necessary, taking samples for laboratory testing.
  • Helping in the selection of work site supervisors and making contracts for them with the help of the assistants of the Water and Environmental Sanitation Engineer
  • Ensure that minimum standards of humanitarian relief are maintained in accordance with the Sphere Charter and humanitarian principles.
  • Helping in preparing all reports, purchase requests, preparing contractors' extracts, percentages of achievement in the field, and service receipts for contractors
  • Documenting results and lessons learned from project implementation to enhance knowledge exchange with counterparts and stakeholders in the field of water and sanitation
  • Carrying out the documentation process and archiving all documents and documents and sharing them with the Director of the Water and Environmental Sanitation Program
  • Share all information related to the project with WASH officer
  • Perform other related tasks as directed by WASH officer and manager

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. 
  • Two years’ relevant experience in same field.
  • Excellent inter – personal, communications and representative skills (written, oral, cross - cultural)
  • Ability to supervise to achieve results
  • Ability to travel independently, including to rural communities and work long hours.
  • Experience at preparing various engineering reports.
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team
  • Proven technical knowledge and skills in the field of water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion (preferable)
  • Good computer skills (MS Office). AutoCAD knowledge is an advantage
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English & Arabic.  
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the community and colleagues.
  • Experience in working in the field and in insecure environments.
  • Commitment to the aims and Humanitarian principles with respect and dignity, while working towards serving beneficiaries and vulnerable populations
  • Ability to think independently and problem solve.
  • Strong planning organizational skills, ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to write reports in both English and Arabic language professionally.
