Job Title: Compliance & Risk Coordinator

NMO is a registered national NGO with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor No. 284. Our mission is to take the lead to empower communities in Yemen through humanitarian response and sustainable development programs in a professional way through effective partnerships. NMO started its activity in Yemen since 2012, and has been implementing projects in 5 sectors namely FSL, Education and CP, WASH & Health, Shelter/NFIs & CCCM, and Governance and Capacity-building.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Establishing, developing the organization's compliance and risk management strategy as well as methods, tools, policies to strengthen compliance and risk functions.
  • Support in Establishing, developing the organization policies and manuals.
  • Ensure NMO is aligned with internal policies, donor requirements, and local laws.
  • Actively promote and support a culture of compliance, risk identification & risk management across all departments.
  • Ensuring implementation of a set of controls to ensure compliance with NMO procedures and quality standards.
  • Enabling NMO to manage risks by supporting organizational efforts to identify, assess, prepare for, and respond to risks.
  • Fostering a risk management culture by institutionalizing processes and systems that embed risk management into operations and build capacity and awareness on risk throughout the organization as well as improving organizational effectiveness by streamlining compliance practice.
  • Identification of specific areas of risk, non-compliance, weaknesses and development of related training and follow-up actions to address them.
  • Establish an internal audit plan based on risk analysis and conduct spot checks and compliance review of key risk areas of operations and programs in consultation with Executive Director.
  • Participate in the preparation of external audit and due diligence of NMO, in close collaboration with the Head of Support/Finance department and the Executive Director.
  • Before any external audit, carry out a pre-audit of the documentation (full or partial) and share the risk table with the Executive Director to always ensure audit readiness.
  • Conduct and/or participate in investigations of compliance issues, when established in the policy, or when delegated by the Executive Director.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Audit or relevant field. Master’s Degree in a relevant field is a plus.
  • CPA or equivalent certification is preferred.

Professional Experience:

  • Essential working experience of at least 3-4 years in related activities at senior management level (Audit, Risk Management, Compliance, Reporting, Grant Management).
  • Previous experience with NGOs/INGOs.

Professional Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong IT skills and literacy in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
  • Strong knowledge of English.
  • Strategic vision and planning.
  • Ability to use tools and systems for risk management and compliance.
  • Familiarity with the aid system and understanding of donor and governmental requirements.
  • Knowledge of major donor compliance requirements.
  • Excellent personal and communication skills.
  • Innovation and creativity.
  • Strong coordination, organizational, critical analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility and ability to multi-task under pressure.
