The Hadhramaut region in southeastern Yemen suffers from critical challenges resulting from ongoing conflicts and economic deterioration, including the devaluation of the local currency and poor environmental conditions. The districts of AlQatn, Seiyun, Shibam, Wadi AlAyn, Doan, and Rakhyah are particularly affected, which has had a direct impact on the people living in these areas.

In Babiker area of AlQatn District of Hadramout governorate, farmer Mazen Ali Jamaan al-Ai, a 46-year-old breadwinner of five, faced significant challenges in maintaining the sustainability of his source of income. He ran a small nursery whose activity was limited to growing seedlings and selling them before they bore fruit, due to the lack of space and the lack of resources to buy greenhouses or expand production.

The From Food to Resilience project, implemented by Nahda Makers Organization #NMO in partnership with the World Food Programme #WFP and with the support of King Salman Relief Center #KSRelief , marked a turning point in Mazen's life.
Through this intervention, he obtained a 9×42-meter greenhouse equipped with all agricultural supplies, including seeds, fertilizers and pesticides.

Mazen says with a smile and reassurance:

"Thank God (Allah) before and after, the reserve was planted and now produces and sells cucumbers and gets a financial return that meets our needs and the requirements of the family. The most important benefit is the daily income from the crop as well as the acquisition of modern agricultural skills."

The impact of the project was not limited to the financial aspect, but also provided Mazen with a real opportunity to plan for a sustainable future. His reserve has been transformed into a permanent productive project that provides for his family's needs and creates job opportunities for young people in his area.

At the end of his story, Mazen expressed his thanks and gratitude to the implementing and supporting authorities, saying:

"I would like to thank Nahda Makers Organization and the World Food Organization for the implementation of this project, and I would also like to thank King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center for the generous support that contributed to improving our livelihoods and opening new horizons for a better future."

Mazen Ali story embodies the impact of development projects aimed at supporting productive assets in transforming small enterprises from a mere source of limited income to sustainable production that contributes to enhancing food security and providing job opportunities for young people.

In the rural Mawza District of Taiz governorate, Sawsan Mohammed lived a quiet, simple life with her husband and three children. She had completed her secondary education and supported her family in a household that relied entirely on her husband’s income.

But life changed abruptly when her husband suffered a serious spinal injury during the war, leaving him unable to work. Their home was later destroyed in a fire, along with most of their belongings, forcing the family into a displacement tent. ‘Suddenly, everything I knew was gone,’ Sawsan recalls. ‘We had nothing, and I had to find a way to survive.’

Dependent at first on humanitarian aid and the generosity of neighbours, Sawsan tried to support her family by selling ready-made clothes inside the camp. ‘However, fluctuating prices and unpaid customer debts quickly made it impossible to continue. The challenges felt endless,’ she says.

Her situation began to change when she learned about a vocational training programme run by Nahda Makers Organisation (#NMO) in partnership with #Cordaid, funded by the #European_Union. Sawsan immediately applied for the sewing course, an area she had always loved. Over several weeks, she learned basic and advanced tailoring skills, and at the end of the programme received a full vocational kit with all the tools she needed to start her own small business. It was a turning point. ‘I started sewing clothes and selling them. Little by little I became able to provide the basic needs and secure daily food for my family. This increased my self-confidence and sense of security,’ Sawsan explains. What began as a survival strategy has since become a source of pride and independence.

Today, Sawsan runs a small tailoring business inside the camp, sewing clothes for residents and fulfilling women’s orders. Her income now covers her family’s daily needs, and she no longer has to wait for aid.

Her work has gained recognition within the camp, and demand continues to grow. Sawsan is not only self-reliant but also a source of stability and inspiration for her family and neighbours. ‘I feel I have a place in this world,’ she says. ‘I can provide for my children and live with dignity.’

Sawsan is one of 450 participants in the EU-funded project helping households in Taiz move from dependency towards self-reliance. For her, the training has been more than skill-building – it has been a lifeline, transforming survival into opportunity.

In Shiha village, Al-Ma’afer district, Fahd Mohammed grew up with big responsibilities from a young age. He left school in the ninth grade to help support his family and spent years working as a street vendor, selling vegetables just to make ends meet.

Life had become a daily struggle. The war in Yemen had worsened conditions in his community: schools, clinics, and basic services were disrupted, and even securing food and medicines was a challenge. Fahd feared he had run out of options. ‘I went through very difficult times and was unable to provide even the most basic necessities for my children,’ he recalls. His situation became even more desperate after a traffic accident left him with a slipped disc, making it impossible to continue physically demanding work like street vending.

Community workers from Nahda Makers Organisation (#NMO) told Fahd about a vocational training programme in solar energy installation and maintenance, offered in partnership with #Cordaid and funded by the #European_Union. Fahd seized the opportunity. “I had been looking for something like this for years. It felt like a door opening when all other doors seemed closed,” he recalls.

During the training, Fahd learned to operate and maintain solar energy systems, acquiring technical skills he could immediately apply. With a full set of tools and guidance from the programme, he set up a small service centre in his home, providing solar power solutions to his village and neighbouring communities. ‘Every panel I install or repair feels like I’m bringing light into someone’s home – and into my own life,’ he explains.

Since starting his business, Fahd has installed twelve solar panels, a complete solar system of a residential building, and five inverters, while maintaining more than fifty panels for local households. Tasks like replacing fuses, realigning panels towards the sun, and inspecting batteries have become part of his daily routine.

Looking ahead, Fahd dreams of opening a fully equipped shop specialising in solar energy systems. ‘I want people to trust my work and know they can rely on me for quality and service,’ he says.

Fahd is one of 450 participants in the EU-funded project helping households in Taiz build livelihoods and reduce dependence on aid. Today, he shapes his own future, using his training to generate income and provide for his household.

A mother of two and a medical assistant student, she and her husband worked hard but often fell short of meeting their family’s needs. ‘Some days even buying medicine or school supplies felt impossible,’ she recalls. ‘The war and the lack of jobs left us with very few options.’

When she heard about a vocational training programme run by Nahda Makers Organisation (#NMO) with support from #Cordaid and funded by the #European_Union, she made a bold decision. No woman in her village had ever worked in mobile phone repair. But Bint saw opportunity where others saw barriers. ‘I wanted to try something different, to give my children a better future,’ she says.

During the eight-week training, she learned to repair common phone problems, from replacing screens and batteries to fixing charging ports and installing apps. At the end of the programme, she received a full toolkit to start her own business. ‘Getting those tools meant everything,’ she explains. ‘It was like someone saying: we believe in you.’

From her modest home, she now repairs phones for neighbours and nearby villages. Each job not only provides income but also builds her confidence. ‘When I fix a phone and hand it back working, people thank me with a smile. That’s when I feel proud – I’m not only providing services to the people of my village, I’m also supporting my family with my own hands.’

Her success is already inspiring others. Women in her community, once hesitant to step outside traditional roles, now see new possibilities. ‘If I can do this, so can they,’ she says.

Bint Ahmed is one of 450 participants in the EU-funded project helping families in Taiz move away from aid dependence and towards self-reliance. For her, every repaired device is more than a small business win – it is a step towards dignity and hope.

From a young age, he dreamed of education and a better future. He enrolled in the College of Education to become a teacher, imagining a life spent guiding children towards opportunity. But reality was harsh. Employment was scarce, and he was forced to work in agriculture and generator maintenance to provide for his large family of eight children.

Then the war tore through his life in the most unimaginable way. ‘My house was bombed, and I lost eleven members of my family in one instant – including my brothers, their children, and my mother,’ Abdullah recalls. The trauma was unbearable, and he had no choice but to flee. He spent three years in Abyan governorate, moving from one shelter to another, struggling to find work and rebuild a life.

Returning to Mawza after years of displacement, Abdullah found his village scarred by conflict, with homes destroyed, shops closed, and markets struggling to supply food. Jobs were few, and daily life remained a battle.

Hope arrived in the form of a vocational training programme in motorcycle maintenance, offered by Nahda Makers Organization (#NMO) in partnership with #Cordaid and funded by the #European_Union. Abdullah, already experienced in technical repairs, joined with determination. ‘The training wasn’t just learning to fix motorcycles. It gave me confidence, and at the end, I received a full toolkit. That was my bridge to independence,’ Abdullah remarks.

Shortly after the training, Abdullah opened a workshop in his village. People bring bikes with broken chains, dead batteries, and damaged brakes. ‘I repair two to three motorcycles every day. And every motorcycle I fix is another step towards stability for my family,’ he says. ‘And I urge my clients, especially the young ones, they should seize any training opportunities they can find, and to start working right away, even on a small scale. Because with time,’ he remarks, ‘small steps can grow into something bigger.’

Abdullah’s story is one of resilience and determination. Through the EU-funded project, he has transformed loss into opportunity, showing his village – and especially young people – that even in the shadow of tragedy, a new beginning is possible.

Shawqi Hassan Saeed Abdu, a 27 years old resident of Al-Jabana village, worked for daily wages and relied on his motorcycle as a source of income for his family. Shawqi is married and a father of four children, being the sole breadwinner for them. Before the intervention of #Nahda_Makers Organization, Shawqi had social roles where he leveled and compacted the Aqaba Road using the tools available to him and without any compensation.

We met Shawqi, who told us "The Aqaba Road was very rough and posed a significant challenge for transportation, especially in medical emergencies, causing major issues for the residents and for me personally. Shawqi also mentioned that there have been car rollovers due to the difficulty of the road."

Shawqi is one of the beneficiaries of the cash-for-work activity within the "Integrated Protection, livelihood and WASH Intervention" project implemented by #Nahda_Makers Organization #NMO funded by Yemen Humanitarian Fund #YHF in Maqbana district, Taiz governorate, expressed that this initiative enabled him to provide for his family's needs and necessities.

Shawqi expressed his gratitude for the efforts made by #Nahda_Makers Organization, saying "The repairs to the Aqaba Road have been a positive improvement for all members of the community." He added "When Nahda Makers intervened, I was selected as one of the workers to pave the road, and I have now become a skilled laborer with extensive experience in paving and leveling any road."

The district of Maqbanah in Taiz Governorate faces severe challenges due to the harsh conditions prevailing in the country. This area is among the most affected by the prolonged conflict and war in Yemen, experiencing frequent attacks and ongoing shelling. The residents suffer from a severe shortage of basic necessities such as clean drinking water and food. Additionally, accessing essential services like medical care and education is difficult, as families are forced to travel long distances to obtain these services.

Athmar Fouad Hassan Ahmed, a 21-year-old single woman and high school graduate, lives with her parents and three siblings in the village of Al-Khuraaf in Hamir subdistrict. Athmar comes from a modest family without a stable source of income, as her father works as a daily wage laborer.

During our meeting with Athmar, she shared that she used to take care of her younger siblings and beautify the village girls for weddings and events using traditional methods. Working in the beauty field was one of her aspirations and talents that she wished to develop. However, she mentioned that her financial constraints and the distance between the village and Taiz city prevented her from enrolling in city-based training courses to enhance her skills.

Athmar also added that the harsh conditions she endured prevented her from realizing her dream of studying beauty, which had a negative impact on her mental state. She described her life as empty and lost, spending her days only on household chores.

Nahda Makers Organization (#NMO) implemented vocational trainings as part of the Integrated Response Project for Protection, Livelihoods, Water, and Environmental Sanitation, supported by the Yemen Humanitarian Fund (#YHF) in Maqbanah district. The project targeted 60 women and 40 men with various trainings.

Athmar, one of the beneficiaries of the beauty and life skills training, expressed her gratitude and appreciation for the efforts of Nahda Makers, saying: "I benefited greatly from the training, without which I would have been unable to achieve my dream. I am now able to start my own beauty business".

Particularly, in the districts of AlQatn, Sayun, Shibam, and Wadi AlAyn that are severely affected, leading to high levels of food insecurity, malnutrition, and limited access to basic services.

Faisal Mabkhout Bala’ala, who resides in Bala’ala village, AlQatn district, is one of the beneficiaries of “Food to Resilience (FuTuRe)” project funded by #BMZ , implemented by the in partnership with World Food Programme #WFP and implemented by Nahda Makers Organization. Faisal, who has spent most of his life in agricultural work, shares his story after being introduced to innovative farming techniques through the project.

Faisal explains that this season of zucchini cultivation was completely different for him because he used agricultural tunnels for the first time. In the past, he relied on traditional methods that required significant effort, expenses, and time, yet yielded small and unsatisfactory crops that barely covered the costs. With the introduction of agricultural tunnels, Faisal witnessed a significant difference. He describes the new method as easy, inexpensive, and resulting in abundant and high-quality crops.

Furthermore, Faisal highlights the positive impact that agricultural tunnels had on marketing his products. In the past, all his crops were of poor quality, making it difficult to sell them. However, with improved quality and the uniqueness of his crops using the innovative method, Faisal gained popularity in the market.

Faisal concludes his story by expressing his gratitude and appreciation to the engineers and consultants in the project “Food to Resilience (FuTuRe)” project funded by #BMZ , implemented by the in partnership with World Food Programme #WFP and implemented by #NMO, which worked to implement many activities that enabled farmers, most notably the reclamation of agricultural lands and bringing them back to life and introducing them to these latest agricultural technologies, which have positively changed his life.

The ongoing conflict and rapid deterioration of conditions in Yemen are pushing millions of displaced Yemenis further into danger and tragedy. Since the outbreak of the conflict, many Yemeni residents have been forced to flee their homes in search of safety. Due to the continued violence and worsening conditions in the region, the number of people leaving their homes and leaving everything they own behind has increased.

Funded by #UNHCR the Nahda Makers Organization (#NMO) intervened with a house rehabilitation project in the conflict-affected district of Salh in Taizz Governorate, to enable the residents to return to their homes after they were impacted by the conflict and lacked the necessities of life.

The field team of #NMO made a field visit to the targeted sites in the Al Mahwa area - Salh District, Taziz Governorate. Among the names that were targeted based on a nomination list from the local authority was the beneficiary Abdul Razzaq Qaed Abdo Saleh, 41 years old. where Abdul Razzaq Qaed spoke about his situation before the intervention, saying: “I used to live with my family, which consists of eight members (my wife, six children, and me), and for 20 years I have been living a decent life with my family members, and I was working with a contractor in constructing buildings on an ongoing basis. We were working in more than one governorate, and we could move between cities with ease.

I had a stable life with my family members. One day, which we will never forget, was the moment when the war broke out in the city of Taizz. As soon as it began, our work stopped, Job opportunities declined, and the contractor I used to work with ceased his work. I didn't get a new job, the situation worsened as the conflict intensified and violence increased day by day. the nearby government facilities were taken by armed groups, which forced us to leave our home and flee to the Ibb Governorate, where we resided in the house of my wife's uncle. My children stopped attending school, and since that day, everything in my life has changed, and I was not even able to afford treatments for my wife during her pregnancy".

Abdurezzaq continued by saying: "My displacement in Ibb was only for one year, I suffered a lot during that year until I decided to return to my home in the Al-Mahwa area, Taizz Governorate. When I returned home, I was shocked to see the walls of my house cracked, the wooden ceilings completely damaged, the water tanks penetrated by bullets, and the furniture finished. However, I decided with my family to live with the situation. After that, I began working as a motorbike driver as I rented a bike from a friend to support my family and to buy the necessary materials such as mattresses and blankets. upon my return to my neighborhood, I saw the school where my kids were studying had become unsafe... therefore, In the first year of my return from displacement, I was unable to take my children because all the schools are far away, and I could not afford transportation. In the second year, my children were able to attend a safe school that was somewhat close to my home which made me feel comfortable. Nowadays I work from 6 am to 7 pm to provide their school necessities and basic life for my family".

Abdurezzaq adds: “At the end of 2022, when the #Nahda_Makers Organization, funded by #UNHCR, began surveying and verifying homes, my home was one of the homes that were targeted. I received the first payment and was working on my own because I had previous experience in the field of construction, Thanks to Allah, I completed all the work, and now I have one room for me and my wife and another room for my kids also I built a safe kitchen for my family. It was a successful project by all standards, as we now feel life is back in our neighborhood with the return of many residents whose houses were rehabilitated by #NMO".

Finally, Abdurezzaq expressed his thanks to the #Nahda_Makers Organization, and to the #UNHCR, in addition to all their staff, hoping to see other interventions such as NFIs, and livelihood to fund him to get an income source such as a motorbike.

The conflict and instability that Yemen has been witnessing make the struggle for a decent life one of the greatest challenges a person may face. However, its difficulty increases exponentially when it comes to women.

Samar is one of the Yemeni women who have suffered the brunt of the war. Like many Yemenis, her life has changed tragically since the outbreak of the war.
The story of Samer, a 37-year-old woman, begins in the city of Taiz, in the Salalah district. Samer, along with her two children and husband, lived a quiet life in their home. Her parents resided on the upper floor of the same house.

Samar told us about her life before the war, saying:
"I used to work as a teacher in private schools with a meager salary, while my husband worked on a daily wage. At that time, we were completely dependent on my father, who owned a shop in one of the city's markets. After that, my husband got a better job opportunity, and our lives began to improve noticeably," … Samar adds …
"But this happiness that overwhelmed us did not last long. The war engulfed our city. And while we did not imagine that it would last for so long or be so brutal, we left our city with nothing but a few bags and a lot of disappointment," …

she continued ...
"The war lasted for years, and the area we lived in became a front line. We started our displacement journey to Al-Abous area, Haifan district, and just a few days later, we received pictures of our burned-down house!

Our suffering did not stop there. A few weeks later, the conflict reached the area where we were staying, and this time we were displaced to the city of Ibb, where misfortunes befallen us one after the other, from the difficulty of paying rent at a time when we did not have any source of income, to the death of my mother from cancer, while my father suffered from Alzheimer's despite his young age, and my brother suffered from many psychological problems. At that point, we could not stay there any longer, and my husband and I decided to return to our city after the situation had stabilized.

When we visited our house and saw it for the first time after the war, despair crept into our hearts. It was like a terrifying nightmare. We had completely lost hope of the possibility of rebuilding it or living in it again, as the extent of the damage caused by the war was unimaginable.

At this stage in our life, and while despair had taken hold of us, and we were living in a house in AL-markazi area, we heard that the Nahda Makers Organization (#NMO), with funding from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (#UNHCR), had started a project to rehabilitate houses affected by the war. We tried at the time to submit the required documents, but unfortunately, ours were not complete. However, we were later grateful for that fate, because we were later targeted in the second batch with a larger amount of cash than before, which contributed to the complete restoration of the house.

Issam is married and has a family of six members (four children in addition to his wife), and they all live in his house in Al-Shammasi, Salh District, Taizz Governorate.

Issam starts his story by telling about his life before the war, saying, “I was happy in my home with my family, my life was stable, and my financial situation was good, as I used to work as a teacher, in addition, I used to have a bus for rent from which I used to earn my income, and my children used to attend the school regularly"…Then Issam moves on to talk about the war and how it affected his life and caused the destruction of his home, saying... "Suddenly, war broke out in the country, and our lives turned into a state of panic and fear as the clashes reached our area. Our house was hit by several shells, which led to the burning of my house and the furniture in it.”

and he adds... "At the beginning of the war, we went through stages of extreme fear and terror, especially after my mother died and I lost my job. Therefore, on that day, I decided to leave my home and flee with the rest of my family to survive. We didn't have any money at that time to rent a house, so we took refuge in a nearby house, which was safer"... What further added to Isam's suffering, according to his words, is that his wife was suffering from a genetic disease, liver disease, in addition to being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis during the displacement. This made her bedridden and unable to move except with the use of a wheelchair. In this regard, Isam tells us that he managed to treat his wife with the help of generous benefactors, and her condition improved slightly, but she still requires permanent medicines".

In 2023, the Nahda Makers Organization (#NMO) funded by (#UNHCR) intervened in a project to rehabilitate houses damaged by war in Salh District, Taizz Governorate. The #NMO field team went to the targeted sites in the Al-Shammasi area - Salh district Taizz Governorate. Among the names that were submitted by the local authority was the name of the beneficiary, Issam Qasim Muhammad Al-Hubaishi. The Nahda Makers team met with Issam, and his house was targeted.

In this regard, Issam said, “Although the intensity of the clashes has subsided in our area for some time, I have been unable to return to my home because it suffered extensive damage, and I did not have enough money to repair and rehabilitate it.” He continued, saying, "But thanks to Allah and the intervention of #NMO funded by UNJCR through the project of rehabilitation of damaged houses, myself and many others whose houses were affected were able to rehabilitate our homes and return to them after years of enduring the suffering of displacement and the indignity of staying in other people's homes".

Finally, Isam confirms that this assistance contributed to solving the biggest concerns faced by owners of damaged houses, which facilitated the return of many people to their homes and led to a skyrocketing increase in rental prices and a scarcity of available apartments for rent.

Before we left, Isam bid farewell with these words, " I will remain hopeful that the situation in our country improves, and our jobs return. Therefore, my family and I express our gratitude and appreciation to Allah Almighty, and to everyone who funded, contributed, participated, planned, executed, and monitored this project, both from the personnel of #NMO and #UNHCR ".

Her success story serves as an inspiration to colleagues within the finance department and beyond.

Abeer's journey began when she actively participated in multiple training courses organized by DCTs. These courses provided her with the opportunity to connect with renowned experts and trainers in their respective fields. Each course proved to be successful and impactful, equipping Abeer with project management skills and problem-solving techniques. Through her involvement in previous courses and her work on development plans and projects, she had the chance to visit various facilities related to electricity, water, and agriculture. Abeer also engaged in discussions with executive managers within the district to understand the challenges faced by different sectors and the necessary projects required for each sector. She gathered valuable information and worked diligently on these projects, presenting them effectively.

One particular tendering course that Abeer undertook in relation to her finance work proved to be transformative. This course enabled her to acquire new skills and knowledge, boosting her self-confidence and expanding her mental capacity. After discussing the course and her comprehension of it with her manager, Abeer offered to share her knowledge with colleagues in the department. She also expressed her willingness to be transferred to the budget and tendering department within the finance division.

Her newfound abilities elevated the department's performance and enhanced their capabilities in handling projects and tenders. Abeer made a significant impact on the finance department and became a role model for others in the accounting field.

Yemen's education system has been overshadowed by the conflict and its subsequent crises, which have resulted in a lack of teacher salaries and students' denial of schooling. The conflict has also forced thousands of teachers to leave their schools and students to work in other occupations to support themselves and their families.

Our story today is narrated to us by a volunteer teacher at the Abu al-Qassim School in the district of Hays in Al-Hudaydah governorate. Her name is Afrah Amin, She volunteered as a teacher at the school to teach the third grade, primary level students. It is worth mentioning that she was educating children without getting paid in return. In addition to her experience in the field of education, Afrah worked with awareness programs in her area. In addition, ,her main job remains as a volunteer teacher at Abu al-Qasim School in Hays district of Al-Hudaydah governorate.

Afrah was facing a problem while doing her role as a teacher at Abu al-Qasim School in Hays District. When we met her and asked her about the problem that they were facing, she said, "Studying in the school was pretty difficult because of the tough environment of the school, which made students and their teachers suffer a lot; there was a lack of educational materials and tools; also, the place was not suitable for educating the children because of the crowding, which made it difficult for students to accommodate lessons given by their teachers; where we had to create more space for students by giving lessons outside the small classrooms; In addition to the problem of the school bathrooms, they weren't valid for use, and there was no water in the tanks that supplied the bathrooms, as most students were not attending school due to the absence of usable bathrooms. She continued talking with her face filled with sadness, saying, "I and other teaching staff have been teaching without getting paid in return"

#NMO, with the support of #ECW and in partnership with the #NRC, stepped in to assist Afrah and her colleagues in their situation in “Access to Education for displaced and host community children” project .

NMO has worked to build new classrooms to accommodate more students and relieve student crowding, as well as to provide the school with all educational supplies such as chairs, blackboards, school furniture, and recreational activities. Furthermore, students were given a number of school bags, while teachers were given their own bags as well as financial incentives for their volunteer work at the school. Through its intervention at the Abu al-Qasim School, NMO has worked to repair and supply water to all school bathrooms. Afrah and the entire educational staff of the Abu Al-Qasim school expressed their gratitude to NMO & NRC for their intervention in the school, which resulted in the return of a large number of students who had previously been absent and allowed the school to accommodate more students from the same area.

Extreme weather occurrences, particularly floods, have wreaked havoc on Hadramawt Governate, destroying crops and threatening food security. Given Yemen's reliance on imports, the gradual devaluation of the Yemeni riyal (YER) has undermined household buying power and harmed food security.

The NMO team did a field visit to Seiyun Governorate, where they met the beneficiary Awad, Awad, a married man who works in agriculture. Agriculture is the only source of income for Awad's family of eight (4 males and 3 females).

Awad discusses his pre-intervention situation:

After enormous efforts from teachers and the village chiefs the school was opened again.

During one of the field visits, Nahda Makers Organization team met Al Nour school principal Mr. Abdo Ahmed Salem Qumairi. Mr. Qumairi started and said" Al Nour school was opened in 2018, the numbers of students that time was not more than a hundred students both girls and boys, with time, it reached around 500. Al Nour school contained only four classrooms and due to students' density, the students had to study in the school yards under the sun and on the stairs. Mr. Qumairi added: "It was beyond our ability to open new classes for the students. The students suffered from their inability to get their basic needs like school bags, notebooks, and pens! The reasons behind that are poverty, displacement, conflict, and the expensive living cost. He adds, "we were not able to hire more teachers". He sighed and continued" It was sad and happy at the same time that some of teachers took initiative and volunteered to work regardless of the expensive life conditions.

Then Mr. Qumairi elaborated, " We now use the classes that Nahda Makers Organization build instead of teaching the students outdoors, under the hot rays of sun, and on the stairs. Everybody's dignity was saved by moving their learning places from outdoors to indoors (classrooms). The students are very happy with the kits and the children dropout average is now less than before and this is a good indicator.

Mr. Qumairi ended with " On behalf of my community, I thank Nahda Makers Organization for its important support in education. It motivated students and attracted them to schools, hence we will open elementary grade next year because of this project. Moreover, the project qualified teachers, parent councils and provided bags to students whether they are part of the host community or displaced and included orphans or persons with special needs.

Nahda Makers Organization conducted an "Education Support Project for IDPs" in Al Khokha and At Tuhayta districts, Al Hudaidah governorate with funding Yemen Humanitarian Fund ( #YHF ), which is based on building 24 temporary learning classrooms for eight schools, two in Al-Tahita and six in Al-Khoukha, in addition to the rehabilitation of the targeted schools, ensuring water and environmental sanitation facilities and distributing furniture for the new classes, conducted training for teachers and parents, distributing students' & teachers kits, and providing incentives for volunteer teachers. Due to that, the education sector has been greatly affected, as a result of those children of Al-Tuhayta have left schools and they decided to go to the sea looking for fishing, however, some of them decided to work as daily workers to cover their family's needs.

During one of the regular field visits, Nahda Makers Organization team met one of the students who is benefited from the intervention.

Sadly, he continued " unfortunately the nearest
school available to my home is very far from my
place which let my family afraid to make me go to school. Also, my family's financial situation can not allow me to reach that school."

He continued "I am so grateful the school has been built again, however one problem remains, that we don’t have the required tools to study, and due to our family's financial situation we cannot offer any of them, I work as a fisherman to supply my family with basic needs, my mom, unfortunately, got sick (heart attack) so the priority for me is always to provide her with her medication on time."

Then he smiled and said, "#NMO had completed building the school, we were all so happy, moreover NMO provided us with the students' kits, now we can use them in school to study well and our suffering has been end."

Nahda Makers Organization conducted the project of Emergency Education Support in Al Khokha and At Tuhayta districts, Al Hudaidah governorate which is funded by Education Cannot Wait #ECW and with a partnership with Norwegian Refugee Council #NRC in two phases hard and soft component. #NMO built temporary learning classrooms and rehabilitate and built latrines and distributed furniture for the new classes. She is twelve years old and has been living with her uncle for six years.

Naysan sighed:" My father died of cancer, then my mother got married. We moved to live with my uncle ever since "

Mr. Adel Kulaib Sulaiman Kulaib, a fisherman with 9 children and his wife. He adopted his nephews and niece after their mother got married.

Mr. Kulaib said " Naysan and her brothers are my own children, my family now consists of 15 members. He also, added " Because my family is very big and I want all my children to access their rights in studying and going to school like other children who are in their age, I did not have enough money to buy them bags and notebooks because of other needs of food and shelter.

Adel sighed deeply and continued:" In order not stop them from studying and ensure their rights in education I used to collect old, used notebooks from the previous years and take away the used papers to recycle them. Also, I brought them a plastic bag to use as their bags which negatively affected them psychologically. Each time I am not able to provide them with school materials, I feel pain.

Naysan happily added" I am now happy to carry a school bag instead of a plastic bag! , I am also happy to be back in school after the new classrooms have been built instead of studying in outdoors, under the hot rays of sun, and on the stairs "

Freshwater resources are diminishing due to the excessive pumping of groundwater. The water demand increases because of the high per capita consumption, overuse, water resource mismanagement, and rapid population growth.

Al-Hajar Hadlan region is one of the affected regions located in the Al-Qabbytah district in Lahj governorate, where the residents suffer from a lack of water sources. On the other hand, the residents also experience the resources scarcity for digging wells and the residents' inability to store the rainfall for drought seasons.

As a result of the difficulty experienced by the residents of this area, the Nahda Makers Organization intervened, with the fund of #LWR, to find appropriate solutions that preserve human dignity and reduce the people's suffering.

Nahda Makers Organization made a field visit to the Al-Hajar Hadlan area. The team met the beneficiary Shukri Dirham Mohammad, 58 years old and whose job is as an electrical engineer. He is married and supports his five family members.

Shukri talked about his situation before the intervention: "I suffered from a shortage of water due to the remoteness of sources and the difficulty in carrying it to my home regarding the mountain rugged nature region. This was costing me lots of money that were beyond my ability due to my limited income. "

Shukri continues his speech, "One day, the team of the Nahda Makers Organization came to identify the need. They filmed, documented, and informed me of their plan to cover the expenses for building the rain harvesting units and reduce my suffering". Shukri also expressed his happiness of receiving this support.

Therefore, #NMO_ORG has implemented a quick-impact WASH project with funded of #LWR through the construction of 154 Rain Harvesting Units and distributing 154 ceramic water filters in Qubaita-Lahij, thus ensuring that they have direct access to water

Access to clean water is one of the biggest challenges facing the communities of Khanfar district in Abyan governorate and this due to the lack of water sources that operate as most of the water supply services stopped functioning because of the dereliction they exposed to since the start of the conflict in Yemen that took place in march 2015, in addition to that , the ongoing fuel crisis , shortage of fuel and absence of the water sources maintenance cycle were other reasons that exacerbated the problem. Consequently, the residents of Kadmat Aslan that located in Khanfar district have to cover their needs of the daily water requirements through the few wells that are located far away from their homes. Women, children, and animals spent most of their days traveling for several hours in order to fetch water. The roundtrip takes hours, and is with risk. In response, NMO quickly evaluated the needs of the area and offered the solution to the area with the aim of assessing the sustainability of the area’s main water source which will contribute to provide access to clean water, improve sanitation facilities and the knowledge attitude toward practicing good hygiene behavior. "The lack of water had affected on personal hygiene for all my family members as bathing was limited to three times a week," Saida Added..

NMO has intervened and supported the community of Kadamat Aslan by rehabilitating the main water source and installing solar-powered water pumping systems and Saida was asked to give her opinion about the intervention. “Now I can cover my family and livestock needs of water, water is pumped directly into my home and this will not lead us to be worried anymore and end the risks and hardships of me and my children travels in search of water. Saida mentioned. No one of my children out of school, the intervention helped them at attending classes at their school, thanks NMO. She concluded.
